No other destination quite fits the definition of exotic, iconic paradise like Hawaii does.
Its beautiful deep turquoise waters and jungles full of flora and fauna are world famous and appear on the most picturesque postcards and TV shows. Even Disney used Hawaii as inspiration for its newest addition to the princess family, Moana! (No; we’re not talking about Frozen, although the snowman Olaf has certainly dreamed of visiting).
With this in mind, why haven’t you visited Hawaii yet? Or if you have, why haven’t you come back yet?
If you need a vacation and you love spending time at one of the most beautiful places in the world, here are 6 of the best places to visit in Hawaii.
1. Nā Pali Coast State Park (Kauai)
We’ll start our list with a place that immediately comes to mind when we think of Hawaii. This national park is one of the most beautiful places on earth. With its enormous waterfalls and freshwater rivers and the incredible biodiversity, the Na Pali coast is paradise on earth.
In order to get there, it’s best to take a boat tour that brings you to the beaches. There are also snorkeling tours, fishing villages that date back over 800 years, and dinner on a cruise at sunset. What could be more romantic?
For more adventurous travelers, there’s the Kalalau Trail, where visitors can get to Na Pali on foot — hiking and camping for three days.
Pearl Harbor (Oahu)
This historical destination is one of the main attractions for American and international tourists. Pearl Harbor is key for understanding and remembering December 7, 1941, when the Japanese attacked American ships, and war was declared, starting the American involvement in WWII.
In addition to visiting the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center, we suggest you visit the following historical sites:
- The USS Arizona Memorial
- The USS Utah Memorial
- The USS Oklahoma Memorial
- And the monuments at Battleship Row and Ford Island.
Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park (Big Island)
If you want to experience the power of Mother Earth, there’s nothing like visiting the Volcano National Park in Hawaii. This destination is one of the main attractions in the area where you can experience natural events related to the underground system of craters and volcanoes that gave birth to the Hawaiian Islands.
The National Park is full of views and places to visit that could easily take up a whole day trip.
Climb the Rim Drive Crater to the Kilauea cliff and pass through dangerous jungle terrain, or you can experience the Halema’uma’u and Kilauea craters from a distance in the Observatory.
Just make sure that you check the visitor’s alerts and check with your state Rangers before you go travelling to ensure that the seismic and volcanic activity in the zone isn’t too active to be safe.
Road to Hana (Maui)
This isn’t a place per se, but a journey. The Road to Hana is one of the best road trips that you can take in your life. You have the option of taking a guided tour or renting your own car. Whatever you do, it’s bound to be an unforgettable journey.
The road starts on the Maui coast and continues to Paia Town, where you can recharge and eat something. Later, you can choose to stay at one of the multiple destinations and attractions of the region for an incredible journey or simply stop and enjoy the scenery.
We recommend that you stop at the Twin Falls, Garden of Eden Arboretum, the Nahiku market, and Wai’anapanapa State Park.
Waikiki Beach (Oahu)
This beautiful beach is the perfect place to soak up the sun and relax with its variety of restaurants, luxury resorts, malls, nightlife, and hotels.
You can also take surf lessons or go paddle boating and experience the incredible beauty of Hawaii. Don’t forget to visit the Honolulu Zoo and the Waikiki Aquarium.
Lana’i Island, also known as Pineapple Island
This private island is one of the most beautiful, exotic, and secluded islands in the whole Hawaiian archipelago. The only way to get to Lanai is by ferry from the Lahaina port on Maui or taking a flight from Honolulu or Kahului.
Here, there are plenty of ways to travel in luxury from the Four Seasons Resort to the Hotel Lanai or even renting a vacation home or sleeping under the stars in a camping space.
Once you rent your all-wheel drive vehicle, we highly suggest that you explore the Garden of the Gods, known by the natives as Keahiakawelo, famous for its beautiful rock formations and amazing views of the Pacific Ocean. We also suggest that you explore Hulopoe Bay to go snorkeling and diving in the incredible waters and if you’re feeling romantic, go down to Sweetheart Rock and Puu Pehe Beach.
Before you pack your bags and book your trip to visit the 6 best places in Hawaii, keep in mind that you probably won’t be able to visit all of the four major islands in the archipelago (Maui, O’ahu, Kaua’i, and Hawaii). But that’s OK! Each of the islands has tons of fun things to see and do no matter where you go.
