  • Town Square “Posadas”

From December 14 to January 11, 2020, Mexico City will celebrate annual traditions including concerts, caroling, and Nativity displays all over town. Posadas are a traditional procession celebrated throughout Latin America where people re-enact Joseph and Mary’s search for a place to stay the night while Mary awaits Jesus’ birth. Over the course of 9 nights, two people dressed as Joseph and Mary go to different houses and sing a song asking to stay at the house.

Once they are allowed into a house, Mary and Joseph go inside and pray. The parties are full of festive cheer, delicious traditional punch, Christmas carols, and piñatas full of candy and fruit. If you want to experience Mexican Christmas tradition to the fullest, a Posada is an event that you can’t miss!
